The leadership and hard work of principals advance the success of schools, educators, and students. So NAESP is celebrating principals a little more than usual this—and every—October during National Principals Month. Check out what programs and events NAESP has planned, as well as how your school can get involved.

What’s On the Agenda for Spotlighting Principals

Webinar: Leading in Tough Times: On Oct. 2, at 3 p.m. EDT, NAESP will present this webinar featuring Dr. Ray McNulty, president of Successful Practices Network, who’ll give you tips to successfully face the storms of controversy in uncertain times.

Capitol Hill Briefing: Leveraging Principals to Retain Quality Teaching and Boost Student Learning: On Oct. 3, from noon to 1:30 p.m. EDT, we’ll be livestreaming a congressional briefing during which panelists from the education community will be speaking with legislators about the federal-level support principals need to carry out the important functions of their position.

Twitter Chat: My Principal Story: Building on the momentum of the morning’s briefing, we’ll invite principals to tell their stories about why principal leadership matters. During this Oct. 3 Twitter chat, principals nationwide will weigh in on supporting teacher leaders, common challenges, best practices, and most effective PD sources. Join us that night at 8 p.m. EDT and use #ThankAPrincpal to participate.

National Distinguished Principals Awards: From Oct. 11-12, NAESP is hosting its 2018 class of National Distinguished Principals in Washington, D.C. Principals from across the country will be honored and given a platform to share their stories.

Twitter Chat: Add NDPs to Your PLN. This special #NAESPchat is your chance to connect with the 2018 class of NAESP National Distinguished Principals. Engage with the nation’s top Pre-K–8 principals to talk leadership solutions and developing the next generation of school leaders. Join us Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. EDT and use #ThankAPrincipal to participate

Principal Shadowing Week: The week of Oct. 15-19 has been designated as a week to invite policymakers, members of Congress, and congressional staffers to experience firsthand the role and responsibilities of exemplary principals and find out what it takes to run a school.

Webinar: Avoiding School Leadership Burnout: To close out National Principals Month, we’ll be hosting a webinar Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. EDT, featuring Baruti Kafele, who will give advice on how principals can fulfill their roles and responsibilities as school leaders, while still maintaining a balanced personal life and avoiding burnout.
