Join your elementary and middle school colleagues on March 7th - 9th, 2019 for the Annual Leadership Conference. This year's theme is "Leadership: Making IT* Work for You". Your registration includes a Thursday opening keynote, the President's Reception, breakout sessions on Friday and Saturday, and all meals (Friday Breakfast, Lunch and Saturday Breakfast). There is also an optional session on Thursday from 12:00 - 3:30 for Early Career Principal and Aspiring Leaders. A 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday morning.  Check out all of the sessions here.

The goal of the administrative and leadership teams at Highland View has been to shift the school culture to refocus adults on students and the learning environment, while providing professional staff opportunities to self-select areas of study and improvement. The Three Pillars of an Effective Learning Environment allow teachers to view their classrooms in a holistic manner, while remaining attentive to individual components such as the physical environment, social emotional learning, and data driven instruction.

Two Prince George’s County Public School Principals and a Prince George’s County Public School Assistant Principal empower other educational leaders with the tools to organize their day by maximizing on increasing time in the classroom versus staff management. In this session, you will learn strategies for planning a productive educational leadership schedule. Far too often, principals and assistant principals are seen as managers and you need to be equipped with the tools to shed light at the beginning of the tunnel!

Students that have experienced trauma are coming to our schools in record numbers. Our hearts bleed for these kids, but empathy is not enough. We still have to set the bar high and help all students to reach their potential. Real-life case studies, current research, data, and many strategies will be shared with participants in this highly engaging presentation.

Dyslexia and The Science of Reading: What Every Educator Needs to Know

This interactive session is designed to help educators understand firsthand the reading and writing challenges often experienced by students with dyslexia in their classroom. These students will not “catch up” without direct explicit interventions and evidence-based supports. Educators need to know what to look for and how to differentiate instruction so they can support these students in a timely manner.
This session will provide an in-depth exploration of dyslexia, covering:
 • Early warning signs and characteristics
• Information on assessment and diagnosis
• Strategies for effective remediation and accommodation
